PROJECT 2

PROJECT 2 CONCEPT

After being asked to consider topics to use, the first that came to mind was my relationship with my heritage.

Font choices

I wanted a transparent font so it almost blends with the photos instead of detracting from them.

FOCUSING ON SUBJECT MATTER

One of the reasons I got somewhat stuck with making an outcome for the first project was because there wasn't a brief or subject I was working in that way for. Identifying areas I need to work on is all good and well when you don't have to create an outcome, however this was not the case.

Exp. of above

A development of the styling project and the scale project in a way in that I am drawing inspiration from the heavily patterned Nigerian traditional clothing. I want to exercise ways in which I can intervene in existing aspects of the culture and make it my own.

Refocus

For Unit 7, my plan was for all my projects to have an overarching theme. After consideration, I am going focus exploring how connected I feel to my heritage. The first avenue I was gonna use to explore this was styling, so I played around with how I would personally wear the garments rather than attempting tool like an authentic 'Nigerian'.

Exp. of why I chose clothing

I think growing up in Britain, of course there is much more emphasis from peers, society etc. to dress in a more Western style for example jeans and a top, but now that I'm older I can see the beauty in the traditional Nigerian that I used to almost be ashamed of. So as this project is about connecting who I am now to my heritage, I thought about how this is explicit way of doing this.
